Sun leaf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A sun sheet or light sheet is a true leaf of a plant , which is adapted to light-rich environment. In deciduous trees, sun leaves are particularly found in the outer part of the crown or on the side facing the sun, while the leaves inside the crown and on the shady side develop into shadow leaves . Sun leaves have a much more extensive palisade parenchyma (palisade tissue) and a more pronounced sponge parenchyma (sponge tissue). Sun Leaves contain more soluble protein, in particular the enzyme RuBisCO .

In connection with the increased light irradiation, the changed perspiration is also important. Sun leaves are often thick and relatively small, while shadow leaves are thin and relatively large.
