The St. Sophia Cathedral ( Russian Софийский собор ) is a church and Russian Orthodox bishopric of the Novgorod Archdiocese in the Novgorod Kremlin . It was built between 1045-1050, making it the second oldest preserved church building in the Russian Orthodox Church. As part of the old town of Veliky Novgorod , it has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992 . In the west portal of the cathedral there is a bronze door from Płock .

In the St. Sophia Cathedral there are tombs of Saints Anne of Novgorod , Vladimir of Novgorod , Luka Schidjata , John II.
