The basement of Carrickananny is one of the few accessible basements in County Armagh in Northern Ireland . It is located in the townland of Carrickananny ( Irish Carraig an Eanaigh ), south of Whitecross , west of Newry . In the case of the basement, a basic distinction is made between "rock-cut", "earth-cut", "stone built" and "mixed" basements.

The ( stone-built ) basement of Carrickananny is located on a sloping plot of land near a field border and is entered through a short uncovered area, over a pile of rubble that comes from the collapsed roof. A basic distinction is made between “rock-cut”, “earth-cut”, “stone built” and “mixed” basement areas. The corridor of the basement is about 15 m long before it is blocked. However, it can be seen that it continues shortly after the collapse. The corridor is divided into three sections by two ascending gaps that can only be crawled through . Between the hatches a short passage leads to an oval side chamber about 3.0 m long. This area has an air shaft and a peephole through which the main corridor can be observed. One of the falls in the side passage broke.
