Inverugie basement

The basement of Inverugie (also called the East Backlands of Roseisle Souterrain) is located south of Hopeman, northwest of Elgin in Moray in Scotland .

The basement is only about 100 m west of the rock carving with cup-and-ring markings in the middle of the fields. The place is surrounded by a barbed wire fence for security reasons. The area is famous for its winter sand drift notorious and the basement is delivered blow to the brim with sand.

The trapezoidal entrance is about 20-25 cm below the adjacent floor level. The inner structure and the construction of the basement has not been explored.

Nearby lie / stand Burghead Fort , the Cup and Ring Marked rocks, the Camus Stone with two spiral incisions and the Rundcairn by Inverugie.
