Southwest Research Institute
The Southwest Research Institute (SwRI for short) is one of the oldest and largest independent research and development organizations in the United States .
Since it was founded in 1947 by entrepreneur Thomas Baker Slick Jr. , it has carried out R&D contracts for public and private customers on a non-profit basis. Around 2,700 people work for the organization, around 280 of whom have doctorates. In addition, this research institute holds around 1200 US patents. The headquarters of the SwRI is located in San Antonio , Texas and has 185,000 m 2 of laboratory and office space. For fiscal 2015, total sales were $ 592 million with net income of approximately $ 24 million.
