The social services of the judiciary in Germany encompass various forms of social work in the judiciary . A distinction is made between outpatient ( probation assistance , judicial assistance and offender-victim compensation ) and inpatient services ( correctional facilities ). In addition, a further differentiation is made here between adults and young people. For young people, support is provided by the youth court assistance .

So far, the social services of the judiciary were almost exclusively subordinate to the state justice administrations. The structure is very different in the federal states . Independent organizations are only commissioned in some areas, such as the offender-victim compensation. In the field of probation, there is a tendency towards privatization of the service. Inpatient services: Socio-educational work in the prison

The professional field includes dealing with the life situation of prisoners and the cause of the delinquency. After the anamnesis and psychosocial diagnostics have been clarified, possible solutions are developed and their implementation is accompanied or checked (under the motto "Help for self-help"). The methods are case-by-case help (counseling, structured case-by-case help, crisis intervention), social group work (personal behavior is reflected and life in the community is practiced, reduction of aggression / prejudices / fears, building up self-esteem) and community work (working together with other authorities).
