Social humanism describes the application of humanistic ideas to ( social ) political aspects and areas and their concrete implementation.

introduction

Society through promotion and innovation in all areas through unconditional protection of general human needs, such as B. To promote education and culture in the sense of humanistic thoughts, ideas and ideals, determines the goals of social-humanistic activities.

Based on the assumption that social security , education, social prosperity and a humanistic worldview promote each other, a network covering these four points is to be created.

Social humanists understand people according to humanistic thoughts, ideas and ideals and thus place them - following the maxim of human beings as the sole end in itself - at the center of their political action. Every endeavor to underpin society in organizational terms is based on this maxim and thus claims to adequately satisfy it.

Social humanism negates ideological (e.g. nationalistic or religious ) perspectives by assuming the general human being as the non-negotiable basis of all political action.

The connection of social and economic issues with the thoughts, ideas and ideals of humanism was also developed by the founders of the social market economy . The foundations for this can be found in both socialist and various religious ideologies.

Basic idea

education

Even during his lifetime, Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling linked the need for a thorough education for all population groups with social humanism in the 18th century.

Social humanist models

Social humanism according to Müller-Armack

In his 1947 published book Wirtschaftslenken und Marktwirtschaft , Alfred Müller-Armack developed “a social humanism under the condition of freedom, which not only follows economic criteria, but in which man can realize his basic anthropological structure - openness to spirit and nature. “ According to Müller-Armack, this is only possible through a symbiosis of the liberal idea of freedom with the social aspects of socialism.

Representative of social humanism

Representatives of social humanism can be found today with the representatives of the social market economy in all major parties , a dedicated social humanist party does not exist in Germany, but there are efforts to this end with the initiative Voran - Die Sozialhumanisten .

In Bulgaria the “ Movement for Social Humanism ” is currently represented in parliament. In France, the humanisme social was introduced as a term by Jean-Yves Cariou . In Germany, Die Linke sought a similar concept with social humanism, referring to the early works of Karl Marx .

As one of the few international representatives of social humanism, the “Democratic Youth Movement” (Demokratski omladinski pokret) from Bosnia-Herzegovina has published the “Social Humanist Declaration” on behalf of its President Ernad Deni Čomaga, which explains explicitly and in detail all the basic ideas of social humanism.
