Social psychology as a science ( Russian original title: Социальная психология как наука, Sozialnaja psichologia kak nauka ) is a monograph by Boris Dmitrijewitsch Parygin . It is the first monograph on social psychology written and published in the USSR in 1965 .

History of origin

The book was published by the publishing house of the Leningrad State University with a print run of 3400 copies. In the same year 1965 Parygin's brochure "Was ist Sozialpsychologie" was published with a circulation of 5600 copies.

The publication of the monograph was preceded by the publication of a series of articles by Parygin, in which the author's vision of the place and role of social psychology in the system of the humanities and natural sciences, its subject matter and specifics in contrast to sociology and general psychology, theirs Features and structural features of their main manifestations have been suggested.

The publication of this book became something of a challenge to a totalitarian ideology based on the orthodox and vulgar-dogmatic interpretation of Marxism. Together with the second monograph published in 1966 - "Social Mood" - Parygin's books became symbols of his time in the humanities for Russia.

Two years later, in 1967, Parygin's monograph “Social Psychology as Science” was reprinted in Leningrad with an edition of 15,000 copies based on the author's explanations and additions and translated into several languages.

The translations of the book into Czech, Bulgarian, Spanish and Portuguese are well known; New editions in Czechoslovakia ( Prague , 1968), Bulgaria ( Sofia , 1968), Uruguay ( Montevideo , 1967) and Brazil ( Rio de Janeiro , 1972).

On the basis of published books, in 1967 at a meeting of the Academic Council of the Philosophical Faculty of the Leningrad State University , BD Parygin defended his first doctoral thesis in the USSR on the problems of social psychology .

The most important determinations and novations of the work were later partly taken from Parygin's basic research "Fundamentals of Social Psychological Theory" (1971), which was translated into German and Japanese and published in Tokyo , Berlin and Cologne .
