Aiden Connor O'Neill (born July 4, 1998 in Brisbane ) is an Australian football player of Irish descent. The central midfielder is under contract with Burnley FC in England and plays on loan in his native country at Brisbane Roar .

Aiden O'Neill grew up in his native Brisbane, Queensland , and attended both Nudgee Junior College and Brisbane Boys College before moving to England with his parents .

Career

In Australia, Aiden O'Neill played for Brisbane Athletic before moving to England. In the UK he was trained at Burnley FC's football school. O'Neill signed his first professional contract on January 12, 2016. A year later, in January 2017, Aiden O'Neill was awarded to the third division club Oldham Athletic . There he fought for a regular place and was in the starting eleven in 12 of 15 missions. In August 2017, Burnley FC loaned Aiden O'Neill to Fleetwood Town through the end of the season . There he shuttled between the starting line-up and bench. In January 2018, the loan agreement was terminated.

In August 2018, Aiden O'Neill was awarded the Central Coast Mariners in his country of birth . In Gosford , New South Wales , Aiden O'Neill was one of the top performers, scoring four goals in 23 games, but missed qualifying for the final round with his club as bottom of the table. In the summer of 2019, Burnley FC awarded O'Neill to the A-League again, now in its hometown of Brisbane Roar . Until the season was interrupted due to the Corona crisis, he had been on 17 missions.

National team

Aiden O'Neill announced after his English Premier League debut in 2016 that he would play for the Australian national team, but had no contact with the Australian Football Association (FFA). He is currently Australia's U23 international after rejecting offers from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland football associations . So he took part with the U-23 selection in 2020 in the Asian Cup in Thailand and reached third place there.
