background

Space Gothic combines various aspects of classic science fiction role-playing games with strong horror elements and conspiracy theories . Despite this rather gloomy background story, the source volumes and adventures are characterized by strong humorous and exaggerated elements. B. funny comments from the game rounds of the authors are inserted as marginal comments or unusual adventure locations are chosen.

Space Gothic is set in a gloomy future vision of the year 2245 and has been developing in a fictitious history since 1999 .

While the living conditions on earth at the beginning of this historical development were initially increasingly deteriorating due to overpopulation , scarcity of raw materials and the resulting conflicts between the states, mankind managed to spread over the solar system and later also over other nearby planetary systems . In the course of this expansion, power-hungry corporations are increasingly coming to the fore and are partially assuming state tasks or are beginning to infiltrate the Terran States Union (TSU) , which dominates the human settlement area, and to shape society according to their interests. As a result, numerous social, religious and economic conflicts of interest arise in the Space Gothic universe.

The core worlds ruled by the influential mega-corporation Prometheus Technical Industries (PTI) and also militarily controlled, and the marginal worlds under the patronage of the space navy ( split into religious orders of knights ) are extremely critical of each other. Both parties, however, again fought the remnants of the rival Shark Investments , which was defeated in a corporate war several years ago and has since been transformed into a rebel and terrorist movement .

Contrary to the official position ( "Despite rumors to the contrary , we are alone in space. There is no solid evidence to suggest the existence of any other intelligent race. We stand for ourselves, with God, in a galaxy that is waiting to be taken! "- Terry R. Pliar, press spokesman for the Terran Union of States, January 12, 2245 ) humanity at Space Gothic is not only extremely at odds with one another, but also sees itself as hostile extraterrestrial aliens that have been carefully kept secret by the military and secret services Races and beings from other dimensions .
