Dark Future

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dark Future is an umbrella term for various subgenres of science fiction that describe gloomy future worlds; it can be understood as a synonym for science fiction dystopia .

In the Dark Future (as in utopian science fiction ) high technology and space travel are not in the foreground, but the vision of a dark and frightening world. Excessive trust in technology, commercialization or a strong exploitation of the environment can be described as causes of the negative vision of the future, but also political or economic disenfranchisement or catastrophe scenarios in which natural or artificially created upheavals are the cause of the dystopian character.
