The Space and Missile Systems Center ( SMC ) is part of the Air Force Space Command of the United States Air Force . SMC is the Air Force's development center for the advancement and operation of ballistic space and long-range systems. The center was created in 1954 and has been involved in the US military space program since its inception.

The SMC operates a series of military weather satellites from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program and works with NASA , NOAA and the NSA .
