In the case of stress criteria - in contrast to expansion criteria - the stresses in technical components are evaluated to assess their load-bearing capacity . This can be done by means of a standard for the individual stresses (e.g. in the case of metals ) or by analyzing the (groups of) direction-dependent stresses (e.g. in the case of fiber-plastic composites ).
