Sparkle Moore

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sparkle Moore (* 1939 in Omaha , Nebraska as Barbara Morgan ) is an American rockabilly musician and one of the few women in this style of music.

biography

As a teenager, Barbara Morgan was fascinated by the Hawaiian steel guitars and western music . Like many others of her time, she was enthusiastic about the emerging rock 'n' roll , which began around 1954. She recorded a self-paced demo tape that she gave to the disc jockey of the KOWH radio station. He recommended her to a record label in Chicago .

In November 1956 she recorded four titles as "Sparkle Moore", named after the comic book character of the same name from Dick Tracy . Their first single was called Rock-A-Bop . 1957 followed another with the title Killer ; all of their titles were self-written. Her record sales opened up the opportunity to support a tour for Gene Vincent , and she has performed with other rockabilly musicians such as Ronnie Self and Carl Cherry . She was even booked for some appearances by the Grand Ole Opry , but had to cancel them due to illness.

After she became pregnant, Sparkle Moore retired from the music business.

But she continued to make music privately. In 2011 she recorded a CD. This CD has nothing to do with the usual rockabilly sounds from the 50s. Sparkle Moore wrapped this CD with her own senses and feelings. Songs about earth and peace, with their own lyrics and their own melodies. Here and there you can find country elements, otherwise Sparkle has invested her own sense of music in this CD.

In the summer of 2012, she suffered a heart attack. Any attempt by friends to keep in touch with her fails. To this day there is no more sign of life from her. Unfortunately, it is uncertain whether she suffers too much from the consequential damage, was sent to a home or even died.
