The Sparrow was a medieval ship in the type of ship Carrack easily categorized and drove under the English flag.

She was the first - and thus pioneering - ship of Nordic design that was not built in the northern European clinker construction method that was customary at the time , but in the Kraweeltechnik, which was tried and tested in the Mediterranean area at the time . This gave the new carrack a unique stability and was also able to carry relatively large numbers of heavy cannons on board. This made this type of carrack a predestined warship.

The fore and main mast were each equipped with a square sail , while the rear mast carried a latin sail .
