Spean Thma
Spean Thma ( khmer ស្ពានថ្ម Spéan Thmâ "stone bridge") is a historic bridge in Angkor ( Siem Reap Province , Cambodia ), which used to cross the Siem Reap River and is located 200 m east of Thommanon . It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage .
Spean Thma was built a few centuries after the heyday of the Khmer Empire of Angkor. Stones from temples from the 15th and 16th centuries were used as building material. The load-bearing, 1.60 m wide bridge piers are built from stacked stones. In between there are 14 arches, each 1.10 m wide, with narrow cantilever vaults . Spean Thma used to be part of the road connecting Angkor Thom and eastern Baray and is one of the few remaining bridges from this period. The building was freed from overgrowth and restored in 1920 by Henri Marchal on behalf of the École française d'Extrême-Orient .
