The Special Group , SG for short , is a special unit of the Research and Analysis Wing , a secret service in India . The unit was established in 1981. In 1983 several soldiers were sent to Israel to attend a 22-day course with the Sayeret Matkal near Tel Aviv . This posting had to remain secret because India had no diplomatic relations with Israel and did not want to anger its Arab partners either. The unit is stationed in Sarsawa Air Force Station and also in Chakrata . In contrast to other Indian special units, the aspirants are recruited exclusively from members of the Indian army .
