Spoke protection

The spoke protector is a device that is intended to prevent body parts, items of clothing, etc. from getting between the spokes of a rolling wheel, but which can also protect the spokes themselves from damage.

The spoke protection on bicycles used to consist of a close-meshed network, which was usually stretched over the upper part of the rear wheel in order to e.g. B. not to endanger skirt wearers, it is now usually made of plastic. Disadvantages of a vehicle equipped with such a spoke protector are, however, the higher weight and the increased wind resistance.

Spoke protection, whether mounted on a wheel or vehicle, offers the possibility of designing a continuous surface in a decorative or advertising graphic .

A spoke protector is safety-relevant so that the feet of children transported on the bike do not get caught in the spokes. In cycling polo, a spoke protector is only attached to one side of the front wheel in order to repel the ball from the goal. Disk wheels are often used on track wheels .
