History and architecture

The six-storey building sections GHI are located on the west side of the harbor basin . Another representation names the memory blocks as GHJ . They were built between 1893 and 1896 according to plans by the government architects Brosche and Büttner , with granaries G and I initially being built. The storage tank H was then built between the other two and has a different support grid. According to another statement, the first phase of construction was built in 1889/1890. The storage tanks are 90 meters long and 21 meters high. They were used to store goods packed in sacks and general cargo . A grain silo made of reinforced concrete was built on the south side from 1935 to 1938 according to plans by the architect Scheibe .

The two-tone brick facade is characterized by double arched windows and colored pilaster strips . There are six portal gables on each of the upper floors. The overlying Zwerchhaus served to accommodate the crane lifts. Graduated gables conclude the elevator areas. The blocks are covered by a hipped roof . Although the individual storage tanks inside have different storey heights and support grids, the facade appears to be uniform.

The supporting structure consists of a riveted steel frame . The column grid is almost square. The floors of the individual floors are formed by wooden beams with double wooden planks .
