Spektakel was a north German progressive rock band.

history

The musicians Detlef Wiedeke (guitar), Werner Protzner (electric bass) and Eduard Schicke (drums) formed a trio in Oldenburg in 1969. A short time later the guitarist Heinz Fröhling joined them and Wiedeke switched to the keyboards. After giving several concerts and recording a record (which remained unreleased until 1996) in 1974, the group disbanded. Eduard Schicke and Heinz Fröhling then founded the band Schicke Führs Fröhling with Gerd Führs .

style

Spectacles played classic progressive rock in the tradition of King Crimson , Yes , Genesis and Gentle Giant . The compositions were mostly overly long (up to 20 minutes) and included instrumental parts and mostly sung by Detlef Wiedeke, shorter vocal parts and excessive improvisations. Especially live, the pieces were stretched out by long solos, and some of the band's concerts are said to have lasted up to five hours.
