The Sphinx Rock is a 50  m high island off the Pennell coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is located in front of Islands Point in the western part of Robertson Bay .

The northern group led by the British polar explorer Victor Campbell on the Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913) mapped the island in 1911. Campbell gave it a descriptive name because its shape is reminiscent of a sphinx .
