Spider quad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spider-Quad (Spider-Quad) or Spider-Beam is an antenna design and is derived from quad antennas . This design is primarily used in the shortwave range and is used, among other things, in amateur radio .

The design allows an expansion of the bandwidth of the quad antenna and the operation in several radio bands. To do this, additional wires are installed inside the largest radiator. The design is reminiscent of a spider , hence the name.

The first quad antennas were built from bamboo material. These were preserved with alkyd resin paint so that they could be used for years. Later designs consist of GRP pipes, Ramin and epoxy pipes as well as special quad center pieces made of aluminum injection molding.
