Spieker

The Spieker is one of the oldest buildings in Herscheid . The name Spieker means memory . The building used to be used by the church to receive natural produce.

History of construction and use

The building consists of a quarry stone house from the 15th / 16th centuries. Century and a half-timbered extension (around 1820). Both parts of the building are offset from one another at an angle, as the structure was built on older foundations with this arrangement. The so-called toilet tower was added later. The Spieker has a wedding room of the registry office next to the home parlor.

The half-timbered building in which the history and local history association set up a home parlor has been owned by the municipality of Herscheid since 2005 . The association is committed to the maintenance and preservation of the listed building. The Spieker was extensively renovated from 2013 to 2014. On the north side, the partially rotten beams of the half-timbered building were partially renewed.

Heimatstube / Heimatmuseum

The local history museum extends over both parts of the building and three exhibition floors. Below is a small conference room with a harmonium and other old musical instruments, a room with old kitchen utensils and a wedding room that is used by the community. On the first floor there is, among other things, a small collection of toys, a classroom from that time, a room with sewing machines and other sewing utensils, a room with, among other things, a quick butter machine from Miele, a butter churn and other equipment and means for laundry cleaning. In a lovingly furnished living room with coffee dishes and a pram there is also a relic from the "Apostle Church": a knitted carpet. The History and Local History Association has set up a demonstration room on the top floor.
