Free leg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The physiological movement of people in the Go is alternating between stand and free leg . During this movement cycle, the supporting leg remains connected to the floor and mostly in an extended position, while the free leg leaves the floor and is slightly bent in the knee while it lifts the leg to take the step . As the leg is lowered, the lower leg is increasingly stretched until it reaches the floor. This turns the free leg into a supporting leg and the supporting leg into a free leg.

In statuary art , this motif has been used as a classical counter post since Polyklet, for example the Diadumenos , Diskophoros and Doryphoros or the Amazons of the Sciarra and Sosikles types . Approaches to this can already be found in the so-called Kritios boy . But the typical ponderation is not yet to be found in this figure from the Strict Style .

In advertising photography - for example for shower stalls - it is common practice for the naked model to turn her free leg towards the viewer in order to deny him an intimate view.
