The Spieleentwicklungskombinat GmbH , also known as SEK-Ost , was a German game developer based in Berlin-Kreuzberg .

The SEK was a member of the GAME association

history

The SEK was founded in 1998 by the managing partners Carolin Batke , Thomas Langhanki , Ingo Neumann and Carsten Orthbandt . In December 2000 a GmbH was founded and the company moved to the Berlin location.

In the summer of 2001 the SEK signed long-term contracts with the publisher Sunflowers , who from then on also took a 30% stake in the company. The ParaWorld project that emerged from this partnership (development budget : approx. 2.8 million euros) fell far short of sales expectations, which ultimately led to the studio being closed. On July 23, 2007, the remaining founders Thomas Langhanki, Ingo Neumann and Carsten Orthbandt were replaced as managing directors and replaced by Development Director Erik Simon from Sunflowers. On October 10, 2007 Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot was also appointed as managing director, who acted as sole managing director after Simon's departure on February 20, 2008.

The company was dissolved in September 2014 and is currently in liquidation .
