Spin network

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spin networks ( English spin network ) were 1971 Roger Penrose invented and provide a combinatorial access to space-time of general relativity is.

This mathematical formalism was in the loop quantum gravity rediscovered (LQG, and loop quantum gravity) and expanded. Spin networks have replaced the Wilson loops as the mathematical orthonormal basis of the LQG Hilbert space .

They consist schematically of nodes and lines and represent precisely the quantized space that the LQG can then derive solely from the concepts of general relativity and quantum mechanics . Rearrangements in the spin network then define a local notion of time and result in the spin foam .
