Spirit , spelling SPIRIT , is a BIM / CAD software from the German developer Softtech for architects, planners, engineers and draftsmen. Spirit has been offered since 1986.

Description and history

Spirit was released in 1986. In 1991 the source code for DataCAD was sold by the American company Cadkey, Inc. to the German company Soft-Tech (today Softtech GmbH). The DataCAD software is the basis of Spirit, which has been adapted to the European market by adding modules. In mid-1989 Spirit was the best-selling CAD program for architects with 1,500 licenses sold.

Operating systems

Spirit ran in the first versions under MS-DOS and from the Spirit 6 release in the 1990s only supported Microsoft Windows as the operating system. As of the Spirit 2013 version, only the Windows 7, 8 and 10 operating systems are supported.

variants

Spirit plan

The Spirit plan software is used for pure 2D drawing. Working with architectural components is also only possible in the 2D area. When creating technical drawings, symbols, references, variables and drawing styles can be used in Spirit plan in addition to conventional drawing elements.

Spirit pro

The Pro version of Spirit is a CAAD system for the construction industries (architecture, interior design, engineering). With the Pro version it is possible to create 2D drawings for the creation of technical drawings (vector graphics), to create 3D models and to work with components for the architectural sector (walls, doors, windows etc.). The specialty is the Explorer (library) from Spirit. From this, the components required to construct buildings are simply dragged into the drawing area and inserted. As with other CAD programs, the drawings can be made in 2D or 3D. Floor plans, sections and views that are required for the respective building project are automatically created with the help of the architecture functions. Spirit is one of the "Building Information Modeling" (BIM) CAD systems thanks to the component-oriented (object-oriented) working method and the integrated IFC interface.

Spirit BrandSP

The Spirit BrandSP version is CAD software for fire protection planning. It has symbols in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14034: 6 and ISO 7010 , drawing styles and components for fire protection planning . Escape and rescue plans, fire protection and fire brigade plans can be created from the CAD plans.

Interfaces

Spirit offers interfaces for various file formats, including DXF, DWG, DWF, IFC, STL and PDF.
