Louis Hilke liquor and liqueur factory

The spirits and liqueur factory Louis Hilke was one of those companies with which the industrialization of the then independent city of Harburg (today the Hamburg-Harburg district ) began. What is left of the company today are the buildings at Karnapp 15 and 16, including the production facilities and the striking chimney in the courtyard. The buildings were listed as a historical monument in 2013 .

history

The company was founded in 1833 by Heinrich Osterhoff as the H. Osterhoff spirits and liqueur factory . In 1859 the business and residential building at Karnapp 15 (monument no. 26953) was built. In 1893 Louis Hilke took over the business. The boiler house was built in 1897. The Karnapp 16 building (monument no. 26949) was built in 1899. In 1901 the chimney was built. In 1907 the Berg family took over the business. Production lasted until 1980.

Products

An early product was "Hilke's Korn". After the expansion at the turn of the century, “Alter Harburger Doppelkümmel” was produced. Other products were u. a. “Hilke's Pfeffermünz”, “Hilke's Egg Crême” and “Hilke's Ingber”.

Current condition

The building was bought by the building contractor Arne Weber. They have not been maintained in recent years and are infected with sponge . The owner again submitted an application for demolition in September 2019, which was rejected for reasons of monument protection. The city of Hamburg is considering the purchase for the purpose of conversion.
