Peak ground acceleration

Peak ground acceleration is a value for the maximum ground acceleration at the measurement location during an earthquake. In the specialist literature it is also referred to as PGA (acronym for Peak Ground Acceleration ). It can be used as a measure of the destructive force of an earthquake, and in the building industry there are prescribed industrial standards ( EN 1998-1) that determine which PGA value buildings must withstand undamaged.
