Spoil Five

Spoil Five ( English "Destroy the Five" ) is a card game for two to eight players. It is a variant of the Irish national game Twenty-Five ( Irish Cúig Fichead ) and is also known and played in Germany through the Altenburg rulebook. The object of the game is to prevent another player from taking five tricks .

Rules of the game

Spoil Five is played with 52 cards. The ranking of the colors is:

  • Heart: K, D, B, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2
  • Diamonds: K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, A
  • Spades: K, Q, J, A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
  • Cross: K, Q, B, A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

One of the suits becomes the trump suit, the ranking of which is then:

  • 5, J, ace of hearts, A, K, Q, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 4, 3, 2 if red trump suit
  • 5, J, Ace of Hearts, A, K, Q, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 if black trump suit

The dealer first deals two cards to all players and then three cards in the second round. The dealer then reveals the next card, the color of which is now the trump suit . If you have the trump ace, you can exchange the face-up trump card for another card from your hand after shouting “Trump ace!” Into the round of players. The possession of the trump ace can also be concealed; in this case the card cannot be exchanged.

Each player may now serve in turn or trump with a trump. Trump must always be served; if this is not possible, you must discard another card. The game is won when a player has three tricks. If the winner continues to play, he must achieve a walk-through with five tricks. If he does not succeed in doing this, his first three tricks are also invalid. The winner receives twice as many points per trick as there are players.
