Sponsianus is the name of a man who is believed to have claimed the office of Roman emperor as a usurper during the reign of Philip Arab (244–249) in Dacia .

His portrait is known from two Roman coins ( aurei ) that were found in Transylvania in 1713 . However, there are indications that they are modern fakes. The reverse of the coins is identical to that of the Republican coins from the 2nd century BC. Chr. Sponsianus' existence remains doubtful.
