Sportavia HLMS

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sportavia HLMS was created as a study of a high-performance motor glider in 1969 at Sportavia-Pützer by Manfred Schliewa.

history

Sportavia-Pützer started production of the two-seater motor glider Fournier RF-5 in 1969 . Alfons Pützer was aware of the deficits of the motor glider for glider pilots, which was optimized for cruising flight. As early as 1969 he had Sportavia-Pützer carry out several studies on alternative motor gliders that better suited gliding needs.

A design by Manfred Schliewa from October 1969 was called Sportavia high-performance motor glider (HLMS). This middle-decker with a wingspan of 18 meters and a wing aspect ratio of 18.1 had a pusher pod with a pusher propeller on the 8-meter long fuselage behind the cabin. The best glide ratio was 95 km / h at 35. The minimum descent speed was 0.72 m / s at 85 km / h with a maximum flight weight of 640 kg with 2 pilots and 10 kg of fuel.

The high-performance motor glider was not pursued at Sportavia-Pützer.
