As a sports festival lottery 6 out of 49 there was the lottery game " 6 out of 49 " in the GDR until the 1970s . The ticket was designed horizontally, the 49 boxes contained 49 different sports (similar to the 35 television genres in Tele-Lotto 5 out of 35 later ).

At some point, VEB Vereinigte Wettspielbetriebe gave up typing for sports, presumably to get more tips on a betting slip. From then on, 6 out of 49 was played as a number lottery like in the West.
