Speaker adaptation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The speaker adaptation is a term from the articulatory phonetics : a process during the speech perception , adapts through the listener's sound perception to the articulatory peculiarities of the speaker.

causes

The main reason that speaker adaptation is necessary is the diversity of the anatomical properties of different speakers. The same sound can be perceived differently depending on the speaker from which it comes. Peter Ladefoged and Donald Broadbent proved this impressively in an experiment .

Speaker adaptation in speech recognition systems

Speaker adaptation is one of the main problems with speech recognition software . The speech recognition system has to be trained by the user on peculiarities of pronunciation before use. To do this, the speaker reads several predefined sentences to the system and the system calculates the necessary adjustments from them.
