Square Pictures

Square Pictures was the animated film division of Square . The Honolulu- based company began work on the animated film Final Fantasy in 1997 . On July 11, 2001, the film was released under the title Final Fantasy: The Powers Within You .

Contrary to expectations, the film grossed less than the production cost, which was around $ 130 million. This led to the dissolution of Square Pictures.

Before that, however, they made the short film The Last Flight of Osiris for the Animatrix series.

In 2003 the two companies Square and Enix merged to form Square Enix . Work soon began on a new Final Fantasy film, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children , which was intended as a sequel to Final Fantasy VII .
