Goch municipal cemetery
The municipal cemetery on Greversweg in Goch was founded in 1905 as a Protestant cemetery , which was joined by a Catholic cemetery in 1912 . After being expanded over the years, it now covers a total area of 11 hectares. Since 1973, burials have been carried out regardless of religious affiliation.
Liebfrauenkamp cemetery (1822–1957)
After the churchyard of the parish church of St. Maria Magdalena was given up as a cemetery, a Catholic cemetery outside the Frauentore (crossing Greversweg / Gaesdoncker Straße) was consecrated on February 24, 1822. Following a collection, a chapel was built in the summer of 1857, which was restored in 1883 and destroyed in the Second World War. In addition to the chapel, a gravedigger's apartment was built and a funeral cart was purchased. The cemetery was closed in 1957 and in 1973, when it was completely overgrown and unusable, it was converted into a 4000 m² park and lawn area. Only the gravestones of the Gocher families Fonck and van den Bosch as well as the honorary citizen families Schlüpers, Janssen and Kampkes remained and were integrated harmoniously into the total area.
Greversweg cemetery (from 1905)
In 1905 a Protestant cemetery was created on Greversweg. 7 years later - in 1912 - a Catholic cemetery was set up next to it, which was inaugurated in November 1913. The cemetery was expanded in 1949, 1957 and 1970 and now has a total area of 11 hectares. The calvary on the cemetery was redesigned in 1972. Originally, a monument created by Ferdinand Langenberg stood on the Calvary on the edge of the cemetery, but the expansion had brought the Calvary into focus. Ferdinand Langenberg's monstrous stone structure was removed and replaced with a simple wooden cross. When this opportunity arose, the clergy who were buried in the old cemetery were also reburied. By a resolution of the Gocher city council on June 14, 1973, the division of the city cemetery according to religious affiliation was abolished and from then on, the burials were carried out independently of religious affiliation. The new cemetery hall was inaugurated on March 4, 1992. This is located in the new part of the cemetery with access from Hülmer Straße. The cemetery hall is octagonal and the roof is in the shape of a pyramid.
