City theater in Wesel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Städtisches Bühnenhaus Wesel is a theater opened in 1958 in the inner city of Wesel on the Lower Rhine.

location

The stage house is located in downtown Wesel in the immediate vicinity of the town hall, the Wesel public library , the Wesel-Hamminkeln-Schermbeck adult education center and the Andreas-Vesalius-Gymnasium. It is located on Ritterstraße and has a large car park facing Martinistraße, where the St. Martini Church and the Wesel-Mitte secondary school are in close proximity.

history

After the end of the Second World War, Wesel got the city casino, a temporary cultural site in 1950, which, with 250 seats and deficiencies in technical equipment, did not meet the requirements. Therefore, the stage was planned as a new theater and construction began in February 1957. On September 19, 1958, the new theater with space for 800 visitors was opened. It was also designed as an auditorium for the adjoining girls' grammar school (later Andreas Vesalius grammar school). This was the only way to build the theater at all, as an expansion of the school building was already planned and the state government approved the plan for double use as a theater and auditorium. Therefore there were grants from the state, even if the city took over a large part of the construction costs itself. In the first year after the opening, it was almost fully booked at events on average. The technology was adapted several times, especially in the 1980s. At that time, the seats were also replaced and the number of seats reduced by 100.

Events

The stage house is the only theater in the city of Wesel and offers around 100 events of various kinds each year, which together attract around 30,000 visitors. Events include classical concerts, musicals, plays, boulevard theater, cabaret and ballet. Theater performances especially for children are in the foreground.
