The Crown of Steel of the Kingdom of Romania was made for Carol I's coronation on March 26, 1881.

It is made of steel and was made by officers of the artillery in the army arsenal ( Arsenalul Armatei ) from Bucharest from a cast steel cannon that the Romanian army captured near Pleven ( Bulgaria ) from the Ottomans in the Romanian War of Independence (1877-1878). It is therefore also known as the plevna crown . At Carol I's request, it was forged from steel and not gold to symbolize the bravery of the Romanian soldiers. The same crown was used at the coronation of Ferdinand I of Romania and Queen Marie of Edinburgh as rulers of Romania in Alba Iulia in 1922 .
