Parish Church of Saint-Julien

The Saint-Julien church is located in the French commune of Saint-Félix-de-Lodez . Today it serves as a parish church.

History of the church

The church has been rebuilt and expanded several times over the centuries. The original construction was erected in the late 13th to early 14th centuries. It consisted of two square rooms and a chancel in the east, separated by a round arch.

The choir and the nave are provided with a ribbed vault supported by several columns. In the 14th century the church was enlarged with a northern chapel. Further extensions took place in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The southern chapel, which is no longer in its original state, has identical vaults as that in the northern chapel. Unfortunately, the important references to these similarities are no longer apparent today. It is certain that this chapel was not always built according to its model. The defensive purpose of the church, which was temporarily included in the construction, becomes visible here.

The western facade of the eastern part of the church, including the bell and the confessional, are a construction from the 19th century. They are kept in a Gothic style.

Historical mentions

The church is on September 8, 1631 during a visit by the Bishop of Lodève , Jean VI. Plantavit de la Pause, mentioned. "The parish church of Saint-Felix-de-Lodez is dedicated to Saint Julian ... it is very nicely built and has strong, large, good-looking walls ..." On June 13, 1659 it was founded by Roger de Harlay de Cési, Bishop of Lodève , visited. He held mass and blessed the church.
