history

St. Anthony Church

The wooden chapel in Grund, initially assigned to the St. Mauritius parish in Gittelde , which was probably built between 1460 and 1480 by the hut owner at the time, Hans Streit, was elevated to an independent parish church on June 29, 1505. The first pastor was Rötger Pengna. It is not known when the Reformation was finally carried out.

The present church rises on the foundations of the original chapel. In 1568 a renovation took place in which Henricus Schrader donated an altar. When the city was sacked by Wallenstein's troops on February 10, 1626, the church burned down and was rebuilt in 1640. The church tower was also completed in 1640

A fundamental renovation was carried out in 1891.

Chimes

The oldest surviving bell was cast by Conrad Michael in the middle of the 18th century. Two more bells were delivered in 1942 for armament purposes and melted down. They were replaced in 1947 by two cast iron bells from Weule (Bockenem). After damage was found during an overhaul, new bronze bells were procured in 2005.
