The St. Chamond 240 mm Mle 93/96 was a French railway gun .

history

With the beginning of World War I , the French withdrew heavy coastal artillery from their colonies in order to reinforce their super-heavy artillery. The factory in St. Chamond made the heavy Mle 93/96 railway gun from the pipes supplied. Care was taken to ensure that the lateral directional range was 360 ° so that the gun could fire in all directions. If the gun was fired across the carriage, the booms and wheel brakes supported the gun. The elevation range remained limited to 29 °, otherwise the bottom piece would have touched the exposed end parts of the mount . Another wagon was carried for the ammunition. This was always coupled behind the gun.
