The Protestant St. Vitus Church in Kernen im Remstal is located in the center of the district of Stetten. The Protestant parish hall, the old town hall of Stetten and St.Pierre-Platz are in the immediate vicinity of the church .

A monument on the outer wall is in honor of the fallen soldiers of World War I attached. This was built in 1922 by Emil Kiemlen from sandstone on the north facade of the church. The base inscription, which no longer exists today, read: "TO YOUR FALLEN SONS THE GRATEFUL COMMUNITY OF STETTEN iR, 1914 to 1918".

history

The church was first mentioned in a document in 1349. It was founded as Marienkirche by the Truchsessen Wilhelm and Count von Stetten. In 1473 a 33 meter high bell tower was added. In 1488 Hans von Stetten donated a Gothic winged altar to the church, which is currently on display in the Württemberg State Museum. In the same year the "Lords of Stetten" consecrated the church to their family patron St. Veit. In 1698, under the Duchess of Magdalena Sybille , Duchess of Württemberg and regent for her underage son Eberhard Ludwig from 1677 to 1693, the church with the exception of the bell tower was demolished and rebuilt in double size as a transverse church and without a choir, by master builder Matthias Weiß, who 19 years earlier had built a transverse castle chapel in Stetten Castle in the Dürnitz on a royal commission .

The dilapidated tower was replaced in 1828.

An extensive renovation took place in 1998. A museum was set up in the church tower in 2002 with exhibits relating to the church tower, tower clock and church.
