St. Vincent Children's Home Bochum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The St. Vinzenz Children's Home is a former Catholic orphanage on Imbuschplatz in Bochum .

history

The house dates back to 1887. Around 1900 around 180 children were cared for and raised by the Sisters of Charity, who also ran a child care and handicraft school.

During the Second World War, all children should be evacuated. On June 26, 1943, 150 boys and girls had already been relocated to the Sauerland and a further 100 children had already packed their bags when a bomb hit the house. 104 people were buried. 65 boys and girls died. When the children's home was rebuilt in 1957, a mosaic was created as a reminder and warning. The new house had space for 200 children.

Around 1989 the concept changed. Children were housed in residential groups. In 2000, the Vincentinninen gave the house to Petra Funke.
