history

Czarnowanz and the monastery in the 18th century - in the foreground the wooden St. Anne's Church

A first church building on the hill already existed in the Middle Ages . There are many different legends about the origins of the church . A legend says that once a robber with a black beard (Polish: czarny was ) lived on the hill in a cave and hid his stolen gold treasures here. After he was converted to Christianity by messengers of the faith , he promised to repent for his deeds and to found a church on the spot, today's St. Anne's Church.

However, St. Anne's Church is only mentioned in the period of the Thirty Years War , after the villages of Frauendorf and Czarnowanz were destroyed by the Swedes in 1643. All houses and the monastery in Czarnowanz were destroyed, but St. Anne's Church remained undamaged.

In the course of the following decades, however, the church deteriorated more and more. After the provost of the Czarnowanzer monastery, Balthasar Gerbert von Hornau, received the permission of the bishop of Breslau in 1684 to build a new church, the old St. Anna church was demolished. Between 1684 and 1688, the master builder Christoph Mlensky built the new St. Anna Church for 200 thalers.

The Schrotholzkirche burned down completely on the night of August 19-20, 2005 and was then reconstructed in its original form by 2007.
