The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Bartholomew is in the municipality of Vyšší Brod (German: Hohenfurth ) in the Czech Republic . It belongs to the diocese of Budweis .

history

The Hohenfurth parish church was built before 1259 and thus existed before the Hohenfurth monastery was founded . According to other sources, the church was built between 1260 and 1270. In 1422 it was destroyed by the Hussites and only rebuilt in the 16th century. The chancel dates from around 1260. In 1643 the church was rebuilt, in 1715 the sacristy was added and in 1761 the baroque altar was erected. The altarpiece of St. Bartholomäus was created by the painter Schrams in 1858. The current church tower was built in 1864, the windows date from 1904.

In 1747 twelve pilgrims brought a statue from the Wieskirche near Steingaden in Upper Bavaria to Hohenfurth, which has since been venerated by pilgrims.

At the cemetery next to the church there are some German and Czech funerary inscriptions, including bilingual ones from the period after 1945.
