At the beginning of the 14th century a first-nave, was three-bay church of St John . It was first mentioned in 1334. It received its current form in the 15th century, when it was expanded into a three-nave church and received the Gothic gable. In 1540, King Ferdinand I pledged the church to the Wroclaw Council, which used the church for Lutheran services until 1548. After that the church was temporarily profaned and temporarily used as a grain and salt store. The Breslau bishop Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg paid 30,000 guilders in 1692 and returned the church to the Catholic community. During the Seven Years' War as well as in the years 1778, 1790 and 1805 to 1806 the church was again used as a grain store. A military hospital was set up here between 1813 and 1814.

In 1810 the church building was secularized and handed over to the Prussian state. In 1832 the parishes of Corpus Christi and St. Nicholas' parish merged, as their church had been destroyed in 1806. The Old Catholic community used the church building between 1876 and 1920 . Catholic services have been celebrated here again since Easter 1921. The church was renovated between 1927 and 1929 and from 1935 to 1937.

The church suffered severe damage during World War II . The partly Gothic and Baroque furnishings were almost completely destroyed; the roof burned down completely. Only the Gothic tabernacle and a few epitaphs have been preserved. By 1945 the community comprised 6,000 believers. The last German pastor was Georg Direske. Between 1955 and 1962 the church was restored. The organ was consecrated in 1977.
