St. Ignace Island ( French Île Saint-Ignace ) is a 274 km² uninhabited island in Lake Superior .
It is located in the Thunder Bay District of the Canadian province of Ontario . The island is located off the north coast of Lake Superior, between Nipigon Bay and the main lake.
The island was named by missionaries of the Jesuit order in honor of its founder Ignatius of Loyola .
The Nipigon Strait separates St. Ignace Iceland from the western Black Bay Peninsula . Simpson Island is located east of St. Ignace Island .
The island is approximately 20 km from the nearest community, Red Rock . The 569 m high Mount St. Ignace is the highest point on the island.
