St. John's Beacon

St. John's Beacon is the name of Liverpool's television tower . It is 133 meters high and was built in 1965. In the early years there was a rotating restaurant near the top of the tower and a viewing platform above it.

history

In the first few years after commissioning, the restaurant stopped rotating when the main bearings of the rotating equipment on the tower blocked. The restaurant and the observation deck on the tower were closed after a fire in the shopping center at the foot of the tower in 1977 because the elevator was damaged.

In August 2000 the local broadcaster Radio City 96.7 (Bauer Media) moved into the tower. Since 2001, the restaurant has been converted into studios and the viewing platform into offices and conference rooms. At the top of the tower, next to the antenna systems for the digital audio broadcasting multiplex for Liverpool, billboards are also installed.
