St. Josef Hospital Essen-Kupferdreh

The St. Josef Hospital in Kupferdreh is a hospital in the Kupferdreh district of Essen . The sponsor is the Catholic Clinics Ruhr Peninsula , which has been part of the Contilia Group since 2014 .

history

The beginnings of the St. Josef Hospital in Essen-Kupferdreh date back to the efforts of the Waldbreitbach Franciscan Sisters, who founded a branch in Kupferdreh on May 14, 1895, in which four sisters devoted themselves to outpatient nursing. The sisters collected collections for the construction of a hospital. The Catholic Hospital Construction Association acquired the land for this in 1900 on the site of the former Feldmannshof. This association was founded on March 31, 1900 by the first pastor and dean of the St. Josef community, Friedrich Schwermann, and still exists today as the St. Josef Hospital eV

The building contract was awarded on April 16, 1901, so that the first nurses moved in on September 20, 1901, followed by the first hospitalized patients on April 5, 1902 after a few patients to be cared for. In 1920 the house was expanded from 40 to 120 beds, then further to 170 beds; In 1944 there were 220 beds.

In 1968 and 1970 a new building with 315 beds was built in two construction phases. An intensive care unit, an ambulance and, in 1986, an old people's hospital with 126 beds were added later. The St. Josef Hospital has been part of the Ruhr Peninsula Catholic Clinics since 1998, which has been part of the Contilia Group since 2014 . On September 30, 2010 the foundation stone was laid for a multi-storey car park as well as apartments for age-appropriate living and an extension of the nursing home.
