St. Joseph Hospital Kagondo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The St. Joseph Hospital Kagondo is a mission hospital in the northwestern part of Tanzania . It is located in the Kagera region , not far from the border with Uganda , on the western shore of Lake Victoria . The hospital, founded in 1912, is currently part of the Catholic diocese of Bukoba .

Some of the patients come from far away, but most of them come from the 11,000 km² district of Muleba, which is home to around 500,000 people.

Around 3,500 inpatients are admitted each year, and between 30,000 and 35,000 patients are treated in the outpatient department. Patient care is largely financed by the patients themselves, who have to pay for treatment, admission and medication themselves. The government only gives a small grant.

organization

The hospital has a capacity of 162 beds, which are divided into four wards (men's ward, women's ward, children's ward and obstetrics). There are also outpatient clinics for diabetes and high blood pressure, preventive medical check-ups for children and pregnant women, HIV / AIDS and tuberculosis. A physiotherapy and orthopedic center and operating rooms are also available on site.
